Europejska Restaurant – The taste and atmosphere of pre-war Krakow
Food lovers should not miss the chance to visit a restaurant with a beautiful view of the Main Market Square, serving exquisite Polish and European cuisine. Europejska Restaurant, as it is called, has been welcoming guests continuously since 1929. Its interior echoes the original décor from almost a century ago — with mirrors, stuccoes, lamps and period details creating an elegant, harmonious whole steeped in the spirit of Old Krakow. In addition to its excellent à la carte menu, guests appreciate the refined breakfasts and carefully curated wine list.
Europejska Restaurant – Krakow from the interwar period lives on
Although almost a hundred years have passed since Europejska Restaurant first opened its doors, the atmosphere still enchants just as much as the food. Located right by the Market Square in the very heart of the Old Town, it is not only a favourite culinary stop for locals and tourists alike but also a living memory of pre-war elegance. The interior design has been lovingly restored to capture the charm of bygone years. Large mirrors in ornate frames, Art Déco lamps, intricate stuccoes, and velvet-covered furniture all combine to preserve the character of a bygone era. Anyone who steps inside will instantly understand why this place has been cherished by both Kraków’s residents and its visitors for decades.
Where is Restaurant Europejska located?
Europejska Restaurant is situated at 35 Main Market Square, within the historic Krzysztofory Palace, right in the heart of Krakow. It’s one of the city’s most recognisable addresses — just a few steps from the Cloth Hall, St. Mary’s Basilica, the Town Hall Tower and Nomadic Urban Premium Suites (a mere 6-minute walk from our apartments). Its location makes it the perfect spot for a lunch break, an elegant dinner, or an afternoon coffee while exploring the Old Town. It is also an excellent place to start an evening stroll through the charming streets of the historic centre.
Europejska Restaurant’s Menu – what to order when you visit
The menu at Europejska Restaurant pays homage to tradition while adding a modern touch. You will find classic Polish and European dishes presented in an elegant, creative style. Highlights include traditional sour rye soup served in bread, clear chicken broth with noodles, fish soup, and perfectly composed meat and fish dishes such as beef tenderloin steak with pepper-cognac sauce, duck breast with pickled plums, and cod fillet with saffron sauce and gnocchi. The menu also offers traditional pierogi, pasta dishes, salads, and vegan or vegetarian options, such as couscous salad with caramelised pear.
The restaurant also boasts an impressive wine list featuring carefully selected labels from respected wineries in Poland and across Europe — from crisp white wines to rich, aromatic reds that pair beautifully with the dishes. The offering is completed by classic and signature cocktails, as well as aromatic coffees and teas.
